KUSD announces list of candidates for Board vacancy

KENOSHA, Wis. (Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023) – On Wednesday, Feb. 1, Kenosha Unified declared a vacancy on the Board of Education due to a previous vacancy that had inadvertently been noticed as a three-year term, rather than the one-year term that remained on the seat’s original 2020-23 cycle.

The notice should have indicated that there were three Board seats up for election, with the two candidates receiving the highest vote totals to be named to three-year terms expiring in April 2025, and the candidate receiving the third-highest vote total to be named to the remaining one-year term, which was set to expire in April 2023.

Eric Meadows received the third-highest vote total of those elected to the board in the 2022 spring election, thus, the seat occupied by Mr. Meadows is considered to expire in April 2023. The district has enacted Policy 8330 – Filling School Board Vacancies to fill this vacant position for a one-year term ending in April 2024.

Individuals who submitted a letter of interest by today’s 12 p.m. deadline include (in alphabetical order by last name):

  1. Carl Bryan
  2. Eric Meadows
  3. Megan Norris
  4. Brian Thomas

Candidates will be interviewed during a special meeting of the board, which will be held on Monday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m. in the Indian Trail High School and Academy auditorium, 6800 60th St. An individual shall be appointed to fill the vacancy by remaining members of the Board of Education in accordance with state law and established district procedures. District procedures are outlined in Policy 8330 – Filling School Board Vacancies, as well as this memo.
