Special Education & Student Support

The goal of Kenosha Unified is to have our students in special education served at their neighborhood school. Services are provided based upon the level of need demonstrated and documented on the Individual Education Program (IEP).

Student support programs are an integral part of students’ daily educational environments, and the plan is designed to produce positive changes in student learning and student behavior. Delivered by school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists and other pupil services professionals, our programs also provide intervention and referral services for those students who are experiencing difficulties in their lives which interfere with academic achievement.

District Services and Support

Special education and related services are structured around the identified needs and services required by a student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). All services received by students must be within the context of a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE) as identified in the student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). A continuum of least to most restrictive educational settings is available to students with special education needs.

Students in special education are served at their neighborhood school whenever possible. Services are provided based upon the level of need demonstrated and documented on the Individual Education Program (IEP).
