Instructional swim program offers three separate sessions for children ages 6–14 (must be 6 yrs. old on or before 8/31/24). Levels 1-6 Red Cross training classes available.

The Advance Swimming option is open to competitive swimmers in skill levels 4, 5 and 6 only. Individuals signing up for Advance Swimming must be able to swim independently for two full lengths of the swimming pool using two different competitive swim strokes. If your child is unable to meet these requirements, they will not be able to attend this class period. If eligible for the Advanced Swim Sessions, they may sign up for as many sessions as they like.

Expectations and requirements

  • Bring a towel, swimsuit and swim cap (for long hair – if the hair is NOT braided).
  • DO NOT bring valuables, such as, watches, rings, etc. We are not responsible for items lost or stolen.
  • Parents are invited to attend the first day of each session & last class of each session to observe their child(ren).
  • If you miss one day of class, you will not be able to test to advance to the next skill level. If you enroll, you are committing to attend all eight days in the session.

Sessions

Session A: Monday, June 17 through Thursday, June 27. Session B: Monday July 8 through Thursday, July 18. Session C: Monday, July 22 through Thursday, Aug. 1. Only one swim session allowed per child.

Each session consists of co-ed classes, which run eight (8) weekdays. Closed on Fridays and July 1-4.

Red Cross Skill Requirements

Please review carefully and select the requirement level that your child meets at the time of enrollment. Selecting the correct skill level during registration will provide you with the list of the class times your child will be eligible to participate in.

LEVEL 1 – Introduction to Water Skills

  • Learn to float on front and back, bob, roll in the water, and move two body lengths
    • Requirement: Comfortable with water but has no experience

LEVEL 2 – Fundamental Aquatics

  • Learn to swim independently on front and back for three body lengths, basics of front and back crawl
    • Requirement: Child is able to go underwater for three seconds, float on their front and back for 10 seconds, and can swim two body lengths

LEVEL 3 – Stroke Development

  • Learn to whip kick, dolphin kick, elementary backstroke, dive
    • Requirement: Child can float for 20 seconds, is able to swim for three body lengths on their front and back

LEVEL 4 – Stroke Improvement

  • Learn to swim butterfly, breaststroke, flipturns, and swim for longer periods of time
    • Requirement: child can swim frontcrawl, backcrawl, and elementary backstroke for 25 yards

LEVEL 5 – Stroke Refinement

  • Learn to refine all four competitive strokes
    • Requirement: child can swim frontcrawl, backcrawl, breaststroke for 25 yards, can swim butterfly for 15 yards

LEVEL 6 – Swimming Proficiency

  • Learn how to swim with ease and efficiency
    • Requirement: child can swim 50 yards of frontcrawl, backcrawl, breaststroke for 50 yards, can swim butterfly for 25 yards
