Community invited to dedication of Bradford planetarium in honor of Mildred “Millie” Carlson

Planetarium naming invite for Millie Carlson

Kenosha Unified invites the community to a reception dedicating the Bradford High School planetarium in honor of the late Mildred “Millie” Carlson, the district’s first planetarium director.

The event will be held on Wednesday, May 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Bradford High School, 3700 Washington Road.

Millie Carlson moved to Kenosha in 1968 to teach science at Washington Junior High School. Following her retirement from classroom teaching, she continued to inspire generations of students and community members as the Planetarium Director at Mary D. Bradford High School, delivering more than 100 programs each year. Millie passed away in 2021, but her legacy continues to shine.

The program will begin with a musical performance by Bradford High School students at 3 p.m., followed by an immersive journey through the cosmos led by current Planetarium Director Jason Standish at 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

This dedication is a tribute to Millie Carlson’s unwavering commitment to science education and the curiosity she sparked in many young minds.
