KUSD’s African-American Youth Initiative students packed bags for its Just in Case Project, which offers a kit of necessities available to any girl who has started her menstrual cycle. The project’s goal is to remove the stigma of embarrassment. Each kit includes one pair of underwear, a sanitary wipe, sanitary pad, sanitary tampon, affirmation card, and a reusable cosmetic bag that reads “Do everything with love.” This project was sponsored by EFK and Mahone Fund grants. The mission of AAYI is to empower and engage the African American Youth by breaking the educational, cultural, and social divide through advocacy and education that ensures long-term success and stability in family, school, work, and community.
