KUSD to host Solo and Ensemble Festival March 23 - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

KENOSHA, Wis. (Tuesday, March 5, 2024) – The Kenosha Unified School District will host the Southeastern Wisconsin School Music Association District Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, March 23, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tremper High School, 8560 26th Ave.

This event, co-sponsored by WSMA, will spotlight students from all KUSD secondary schools with more than 600 individual and small-group adjudicated events. Events are adjudicated by musicians certified through and contracted by WSMA. Festival events are divided into classifications of A, B and C according to the required skill level of the music performed, with Class A being the most difficult. Musical selections are chosen from an approved list developed by WSMA.

Student performances are evaluated using the WSMA performance rubric, which is divided into several musical sub-categories. The overall performances will be scored as a composite of the ratings earned in each of the rubric’s sub-category. All participants will receive performance evaluations from the judges. Students receiving a superior rating in Class A competition who also satisfy specific qualitative and quantitative performance criteria will be eligible to advance to the State Solo and Ensemble Festival to be held on Saturday, April 27, at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

The success of this event relies heavily on volunteers. Individuals who are able to support this student activity can sign up to volunteer for one or more of the available positions and shifts: Volunteer for Solo and Ensemble

This event is free and open to the public. It will feature a variety of solo performances, as well as ensembles ranging from duets and trios to madrigal groups and alternative string, brass, woodwind, jazz and percussion ensembles.
