The Role Administrators Play in Supporting Schools
Supporting Students. Empowering Staff. Strengthening Schools.
Kenosha Unified serves more than 17,500 students and employs more than 3,200 staff across the district. Among those staff are 85 administrators who provide leadership for schools and oversee the systems and services that help schools function every day.
Administrators represent less than 3% of KUSD’s employees. Nine administrative positions are funded through external grants or other dedicated funding sources rather than the district’s general operating budget, including 1 Elementary Assistant Principal, 1 School Leadership, 6 SPED/Student Support, and 1 Facilities.
In KUSD, an administrator is an employee whose primary responsibilities include leading schools or programs, supervising staff, or managing district operations. Whether in schools or at the Educational Support Center (ESC), administrators ensure schools have the people, resources, and support needed to provide every student with a safe, high-quality educational experience.
School Building Administrators
Forty-eight of KUSD’s 85 administrators work directly in schools as principals, assistant principals, or the district’s program director. They provide instructional leadership, foster safe and welcoming learning environments, address student needs, support teachers, and partner with families to help every student succeed.
Our 31 principals serve as the instructional and operational leaders of our schools, while 16 assistant principals provide additional leadership and support for students, staff, and families.
The district’s program director oversees the eSchool program, chairs the Administrative Review Committee for student expulsion hearings, and serves as the district’s Title IX coordinator.
ESC Administrators
The remaining administrators work at the ESC, where they provide specialized services for every school across the district. They manage districtwide operations and services that support students, principals, and teachers, allowing them to focus on teaching and learning.
ESC administrators support schools, staff, and students by:
- Supporting curriculum, instruction, and professional learning
- Recruiting, hiring, and supporting employees
- Developing and managing the district’s budget and finances
- Coordinating student services and support for families
- Communicating and partnering with families, staff, and the community
- Maintaining technology systems and protecting district cybersecurity
- Overseeing facilities and ensuring safe, secure learning environments
- Managing school nutrition and food service programs
- Maintaining student information systems and data
- Managing compliance with state and federal requirements
- Coordinating emergency response efforts
Supporting Our Students
While administrative roles differ, they all share the same purpose: supporting schools, staff, students, and families so every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
