2026 KUSD Jazz Festival weekend to feature Phat Phunktion, student ensembles and guest artists

KENOSHA, Wis. (Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026) – The Kenosha Unified School District, in collaboration with Dave Sturino of Hansen’s Pool and Spa, will present a weekend of jazz performances and educational opportunities Nov. 5-7 at Tremper High School, 8560 26th Ave.

The weekend will kick off Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. with a concert featuring Phat Phunktion, a Madison-based, nine-piece American funk, R&B and soul band founded by Bradford alumnus Al Falaschi, saxophonist and songwriter. General admission tickets are $10.

Friday afternoon and Saturday morning will feature student performance sessions with guest artists and clinicians. The event will conclude Saturday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m. with the annual Jazz Festival concert, featuring all KUSD jazz ensembles and special guests Al Falaschi on saxophone, Jon Schipper on trumpet and Nick Moran on bass.

The public is welcome to attend the concerts and all Friday and Saturday festival activities leading up to the evening performances.

Reserved seating tickets for Saturday evening’s Jazz Festival are $10, with a limit of three per person. The performance will also be streamed live on the KUSD YouTube channel and can be viewed free of charge. Auditorium seating is reserved.

This year’s festival is made possible by a generous donation from Hansen’s Pool and Spa. Participating band directors are Karl Mueller, Bradford High School; John Stecher, Harborside Academy; Michael Monk, Indian Trail High School and Academy; Kathy Ripley, Tremper High School; Stacey Zwirlein, Mahone Middle School; Matt Maccari, Lance Middle School; Katie Poole, Bullen Middle School; and Lucas Dickinson, Washington Middle School; and Brittany Teschler, LakeView K-8.
