Washington Middle School 7th grade science students in Ms. Witt’s class have been busy investigating what causes the fizz in bath bombs! By testing different combinations of bath bomb ingredients, students gathered evidence supporting the conclusion that the gas produced is a new substance, not one of the original materials.
As part of their Chemical Reactions Unit, students discovered that this gas forms from the matter in baking soda, citric acid and water, reinforcing the idea that matter is conserved and transformed during a chemical reaction.
Hands-on experiments + critical thinking = meaningful science learning!
