Hillcrest students lead marine education day for KUSD second graders

Hillcrest School welcomed second-grade students from four KUSD schools for an unforgettable, hands-on day of marine education led by Hillcrest’s own student volunteers!

Students explored a variety of interactive stations, including:
🎨 Creative Crafts – designing their own whale crowns
🎣 Interactive Games – “fishing” for 3D-printed whales by playing trivia and Whale Bingo
🦷 Biological Simulations – using “baleen” tools to see how whales feed on krill
🎥 Immersive Media – stepping inside a gym-sized orca to watch educational videos

Adding to the fun, Hillcrest students brought the experience to life as whale mascots throughout the event!

This engaging day showcased student leadership, creativity, and a passion for learning—making waves for everyone involved.
