Prairie Lane Elementary is celebrating Black History Month with meaningful learning and creativity!
Students have created powerful Black History mosaics — a beautiful tribute to the leaders and changemakers who shaped our world.
In classrooms, students are:
📚 Reading biographies about influential African Americans and key moments in history, including the Civil Rights Movement and the March on Washington.
🎥 Watching BrainPOP Jr. clips about inspiring figures such as Ruby Bridges, Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks.
🗣 Engaging in thoughtful discussions about Black history, not just in February, but throughout the second semester and into the fourth quarter.
📖 Sharing read-alouds about leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Ruby Bridges and Jackie Robinson.
🌟 Learning about everyday heroes like Wilma Rudolph and George Washington Carver.
💻 Strengthening comprehension skills through Epic books and quizzes featuring famous Black Americans.
Prairie Lane is committed to honoring Black history not as a moment, but as an ongoing opportunity to learn, reflect and grow.
