Service-Learning Project

Ashleigh Ours standing next to 32 flower pots

Ashleigh Ours, a Brompton School seventh-grader, designed her own service-learning project to create and deliver flower pots for Brookside Manor residents. This was something that was near and dear to her as her great-grandma is currently a resident on their hospice wing. She sought sponsorships of $20 for each flower pot and has received a total of 47 sponsorships. This was a tremendous task for her as she had to research, plan and budget for the fundraiser. She chose a budget of $15 from the original $20 to get the supplies of pots, flowers, dirt, and decorations. The last $5 went to a nonprofit fund through her Job's Daughter International affiliation called The HIKE FUND, which provides parents of youth financial assistance and the ability to acquire hearing devices for children. She will be sending them a check for $250 this week.
