Boundary/Choice School Selection

Your family, your choice: navigating educational options together.

Life is not a one-size-fits-all journey, and neither is school for our students. That’s why KUSD offers families a variety of boundary and choice schools to meet the needs of all learners in grades 4K-12. Each student in KUSD is assigned to a school based on the boundary in which they live. However, every student has the option to attend other schools by choice. KUSD invites you to join us for the parent meetings and/or open houses to appeal to your family.

What’s the difference between boundary and choice schools?

  • Boundary schools are assigned based on a student’s home address. Find yours using the Boundary School Locator tool.
  • Choice schools are KUSD schools other than a student’s boundary school, to which families may apply to attend.

To help determine which school option is the best fit for your child(ren), we invite you to join us for the open houses below that appeal to your family. Topics include programming offered by the various schools and how to apply or register for the 2026-27 school year.

How to Apply

The district will email electronic choice selection forms/applications to families on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025. The deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 5, at noon. Choice schools will review applications or run their lotteries, notifying families of selections before winter break. Families must accept or decline by Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026.

Families who plan to attend their assigned boundary school should complete the annual registration process. Families with questions are encouraged to contact the Office of School Leadership at 262-359-6008.
