GEAR UP
Gear-Up is a class that introduces incoming 6th-grade students to the various aspects of middle school. This class helps students transition to Mahone Middle School. Gear-Up is a 2-hour session. The purpose of Gear-Up is to familiarize incoming 6th-grade students with Mahone Middle School. Students will have a chance to meet classmates, tour the building, learn about schedules and policies, and ask questions related to the upcoming school year. It is highly recommended that all students attend so that the transition from elementary school to middle school is a positive one.

Annual Free & Reduced Meal ApplicationBeginning in the 2026-27 school year, KUSD will transition from a districtwide Community Eligibility Program (CEP) back to a partial CEP. As a reminder, the CEP allows eligible schools to serve healthy breakfast and lunch meals to students at no charge each day. During the 2022-23 school year, KUSD expanded CEP districtwide. Due to current financial strains on Fund 50, KUSD will return to a partial CEP beginning in 2026-27. Mahone is returning to a traditional model of Free/Reduced/Paid, and families need to complete an application to qualify.
