Pyramid Model at Home

How Can I Support My Child’s Social-Emotional Development?

What are PBIS and Pyramid Model????

PBIS stands for “Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports,” and it means that we believe that children learn how to behave when we take time to TEACH them how to behave.

Pyramid Model is a tool that we use to do PBIS at a preschool level.

April

This month during our Second Step lessons, we are learning about problem solving.  This month’s Cool Tool, “We Can Be Problem Solvers,” is a Pyramid Model book that helps the children practice coming up with solutions to problems.  Please ask your child’s teacher if you would like your own Problem Solvers book to keep at home!

March

This month during our March Second Step lessons, we are learning about Fair Ways to Play, and how to join our friends in play.  This month’s Cool Tool, “I Can Be a Super Friend,” is a Pyramid Model book that helps the children practice the skills they will need to play well with others.

Please ask your child’s teacher today if you would like your own Super Friend book to keep at home.

February

In January, the Cool Tool was a book called, “Tucker Turtle Takes Time to Tuck and Think.”  Tucker Turtle teaches children to CALM DOWN when they are having strong feelings and to think of SOLUTIONS, or ways to make it better.  This month’s Cool Tool is a set of Solution Cards for the children to use when they are using the Turtle Technique.  We have been using the Solution Cards in our classrooms to help the children begin to solve their own problems when they have strong feelings.  Want your own set to have at home?  Ask your child’s teacher for one today!

January

Last month, your child’s teacher shared information about our Tucker Turtle book, “Tucker Turtle Takes Time to Tuck and Think.”  Tucker Turtle teaches children to CALM DOWN when they are having strong feelings and to think of SOLUTIONS, or ways to make it better.  This month’s Cool Tool is a “Ways to Calm Down,” poster.  We are using the poster in our classrooms to help the children begin to calm down on their own when they have strong feelings.  Want your own poster to have at home?  Ask your child’s teacher for one today!

December

This month during our Second Step lessons, we are learning about strong feelings and how to manage them.  This month’s Cool Tool, “Tucker Turtle Takes Time to Tuck and Think,” is a Pyramid Model book that helps the children practice calming their strong feelings.  Please ask your child’s teacher if you would like your own Tucker Turtle book to keep at home!

November

This month during our Second Step lessons, we are learning to identify feelings.  Children who know how to identify feelings tend to have better social skills and be less aggressive and more accepted by peers.  In class, we are using lots of different activities to help the children learn to identify feelings.  Want to help your child learn to identify feelings at home?  Ask your child’s teacher for your own Feeling Graph poster  so you can tell each other how you are feeling throughout the day.  Remember feelings change throughout the day, it is good for your child to talk about how they feel and why they feel that way.
