Beyond the Tassel: Emersen Smith, class of 2020

Meet Emersen Smith, a 2020 Indian Trail graduate who is currently working as a Board Certified Music Therapist at a therapeutic day center for adults with disabilities.

More about Emersen:

Current city: Minneapolis, MN

Favorite teacher: I have two teachers who inspired me every day I walked into their classroom.  Mr. Choi (choir) pushed me to be a better musician, which really paid off when I became a music major.  He also started my love for singing in large ensembles. Ms. Phillips pushed me to be a better student in a subject I was often told I would never excel in. She believed in me every day I walked through her doors and worked to help me succeed.

Advice to current KUSD students: My advice to current KUSD students is always to be willing to try new things. This goes for high school and beyond. You are very lucky to have the opportunities that KUSD provides. Participating in high school activities provided me with time management skills to balance performing in college ensembles, athletics, work, and serving as the college mascot, all while prioritizing academics.
