KUSD partners with Plant Based Nutrition Movement to host March Into Literacy

KENOSHA, Wis. (Friday, March 15, 2024) – Kenosha Unified’s Edward Bain School of Language and Art (EBSOLA) and Community School Relations Department is thrilled to announce its upcoming March Into Literacy event on Tuesday, March 19, from 5:30-7 p.m. This new family education program aims to foster family bonding, encourage literacy, and promote healthy eating habits among students and their families. Sessions will feature parent workshops on homework, literacy activities, guest storytellers, games, and crafts for all ages.

In addition, dinner will be provided to pre-registered guests by the Plant Based Nutrition Movement (PBNM), 6 Million Seeds Child Nutrition Project. The meal, generously donated by Meryl Fury, president and CEO of PBNM, showcases her commitment to promoting family connections and healthy eating habits.

“We are thrilled to host March Into Literacy in collaboration with the Community School Relations Department and the 6 Million Seeds Child Nutrition Project,” EBSOLA reading interventionist Allenha Santiago said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for families to learn together, enjoy a nutritious meal, and connect through the power of conversation.”

Throughout the evening, attendees will be invited to choose conversation starter cards to spark discussions and deepen connections with their loved ones. By promoting face-to-face interactions and discouraging mobile device usage, the event aims to create memorable experiences, foster new family mealtime practices, and strengthen family bonds.

“We believe that sharing a meal is not only about nourishing our bodies but also nurturing our relationships,” PBNM President and CEO Meryl Fury said. “By providing nutritious meals and encouraging meaningful conversations, we hope to inspire families to prioritize quality time together.”

All students, families, and community members are welcome to join in this event. Registration for dinner is now closed, but families may still join for family education events from 6-7 p.m. (no registration required). For more information, please visit March Into Literacy.
