Whittier Elementary recognized for PBIS Program

Time to celebrate!  Our school has  been recognized for the last four years for our work implementing a multi-level system of support.  This is a school-wide framework aimed at closing achievement gaps and creating a positive safe environment for students.

This framework has helped us increase the consistency of effective instruction for all students, build staff knowledge and skills to support learners, use data to proactively identify and provide support for students, and  foster a culture that supports strong relationships with students and their families.

As a result of our work, we are bring recognized by the Wisconsin RtI Center in the area of Behavior at the Silver Level.  This award helps us celebrate our efforts !

What is PBIS?

PBIS is a process that focuses on improving our school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all children.
It is an approach to create a safe and productive learning environment where all children can learn.

What does PBIS look like at Whittier?

Our staff has developed expectations for behaviors in all settings of our school. Expectations are posted throughout the building and on the inside of the PBIS brochure (below).

We teach, model, practice, and reinforce our expectations of Be Safe, Be Kind, and Be Responsible. We also reinforce positive behaviors by recognizing classrooms and individual students throughout the year.

Parent Information Meetings will be held throughout the year.  Information and updates will be shared on our website and our weekly newsletter.
