Any Student within KUSD is able to audition. Tremper&#8217;s annual musical is cast through the KUSD Theatre Arts Program auditions. Over two years, Anne Frank, a young girl, chronicles their daily lives, fears, and hopes in her diary, revealing the challenges and dynamics of living in hiding, while also reflecting on adolescence and the broader human condition.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"row col-12 mx-auto\">\n<div class=\"audition-date\"><strong><span class=\"fw-bold\">Audition Date:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0December 2nd and 3rd<\/div>\n<div class=\"audition-location\"><strong><span class=\"fw-bold\">Audition Location:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0Tremper Studio Theater (Room 120)<\/div>\n<div class=\"audition-times\"><span class=\"fw-bold\"><strong>Audition Times<\/strong>:<\/span>\u00a05:30 pm &#8211; 8:00 pm<\/div>\n<div class=\"audition-signup\"><span class=\"fw-bold\"><strong>Audition Sign Up<\/strong>:<\/span>\u00a0Students will be able to sign up here for a 10 minute time slot on either audition date. These monologues do not need to be fully memorized, but the performer should be quite familiar with them. Students will also be asked to do a short silent activity to show physical expression and movement.<\/div>\n<div class=\"monologue-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1m2LcVbdIUwil76B3qfjqMGmoYde9T2LbzDJbw2Eol_o\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monologues<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"row col-12 mx-auto\"><strong><span class=\"fw-bold\">Characters:<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"row col-12 col-lg-10 mx-auto\">\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Anne Frank<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">13 year old girl, ages to 15, warm, witty, intelligent, charming, self aware, sensitive, often impatient, sometimes a know it all, open, determined, easily hurt, spirited, hopeful, fun loving, desperate, with all the longings, expectations and attitudes that adolescence brings. Though hiding and living in constant fear and isolation, she never gave up. She had a fraught relationship with her mother, adored her father, and lovingly envied her sister.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Otto Frank<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">Father of Anne and Margot and head of the group living in his Annex, middle 40s to early 50s, upper middle class background, a wise man, fair, loyal, attentive, patient, intelligent, soft, level headed, optimistic, genuinely liked people, decision maker, teacher, beloved by his workers who protected him and his family as well as the other tenants of the Annex throughout the war. He was especially susceptible to Anne\u2019s charms. He was devoted to his wife, Edith, and comforted her whenever she was depressed about their living conditions, the attitudes of the Van Daans\/Dussel, or her relationship with Anne.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Margot Frank<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">15 year old sister of Anne, ages to 17, pretty, quiet, obedient, demure, frail, friendly, very intelligent, overwhelmed by the trials of hiding, very close to her mother and father. Like Anne, she longed for a friend in whom she could confide. She played the role of peacemaker when Anne overstepped. She was a good girl and was admired by all.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Edith Frank<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">A lovely woman, wife and mother, mid 40s, from a wealthy German family, reticent, loving, moral, concerned, gracious, cultured, devoted to tradition, devastated by her relationship with Anne, barely able to cope with the demands of everyday life in hiding and isolation, tries very hard to accommodate the lower middle class Van Daan family whose uncouth and argumentative ways are an irritant to her and causes her to finally erupt into a seething rage.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Mr. Van Daan<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">Mid 40s to 50s, dour, selfish, complaining, ungrateful, superficial, quarrelsome, dictatorial, highly critical of his son Peter, easily irritated, is rather withdrawn from the other occupants of the Annex. His transgression causes the great blow up in the Annex.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Mrs. Van Daan<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">Mid 40s, loud, egotistical, talky, often crude, suspicious, bossy, moody, self important, overbearing, critical of others, flirtatious, manipulative, sometimes depressed, enjoys a good laugh or story, more accepting of her introverted son, delusional about her younger self\u2019s popularity and looks, feels as if she is the Queen Bee in the group, chafes under her husband\u2019s control, tries to run the household.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Peter Van Daan<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">17 year old boy, ages to 19, withdrawn, unsure, awkward, immature, shy, sometimes amusing, attached to his cat, tries to stay out of everyone\u2019s way, hates his mother and father\u2019s constant quarrels, ages from the introverted teenager to the more mature 19 year old who enjoys the company of the girls and who begins to be interested in all the other occupants of the Annex.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Mr. Dussel<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">Mid 40s to 50, dentist, stodgy, old fashioned, disciplined, hypercritical, selfish, horrified at Anne\u2019s behavior, genuinely does not like people, picky, unhappy with everything, a man who has not come to terms with his situation, whiny, a perfectionist, ungrateful, and easily angered.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Miep<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">25 to 40, Austrian refugee living in the Netherlands, employed by Mr. Frank, entrusted by Otto Frank with provisioning the occupants of the Annex and hiding them from the outside world, she collected fake ration cards, purchased all their foodstuffs, visited the library on their behalf, and generally tried to keep their spirits up. She was courageous, empathetic, compassionate, and friendly.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong><span class=\"show-character-name\">Mr. Kraler<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0<span class=\"show-character-description\">Dutch, helps Miep with the responsibilities of feeding and hiding the occupants of the Annex, is an employee of Mr. Frank\u2019s company, a trusted colleague and friend. He is sympathetic to their plight, does what he can for them, and runs the company in Mr. Frank\u2019s name, an honest and good man.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"row col-12 mx-auto\">\n<div class=\"rehearsal-information\"><span class=\"fw-bold\"><strong>Rehearsal Information<\/strong>:<\/span>\u00a0Rehearsals will officially begin in January. Rehearsals will typically occur after school from 5:30-8:30. Rehearsals are currently planned to occur on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. A complete rehearsal calendar will be shared through KUSD Google Drive once the cast list is posted. Cast members are not permitted to miss more than three rehearsals, unless absences were already scheduled, so please list all conflicts on your audition form.
