Reuther Central High School alum and Chicago-area community activist Jahmal Cole spoke with students about his life hourney and what he’s learned along the way. He encouraged students to stay disciplined, pursue passions, surround yourself with people that lift you up, do more than what’s expected, and “stand guard at the door of your thoughts.” Here are just a few of the powerful quotes he left with Reuther students:
\n“Change your philosophy. Instead of blaming somebody, think ‘what’s something simple that I can do that will have a positive impact on my life?’ and do it.”
\n“No excuses. The highest lefel of maturity is taking full responsibility for your actions.”

A Campion of social justice, Jahmal Cole’s mission is to build a more interconnected Chicago on the pillars of service and education. He is the founder and CEO of the city’s fastest growing social impact organization, My Block, My Hood, My City – an exposure-based education program for teens and a network of volunteer initiatives that serve Chicao communities year-round. Cole’s work has earned him numerous accolades, including Chicagoan of the Year by Chicago Magazine, Crain’s List of the 25 Most Powerful Chicagoans, and the 2020 American Red Cross Community Impact Hero Award.<\/p>\n
