Kenosha School of Technology Enhanced Curriculum’s (KTEC) students will participate in the Computer Science Education Week’s global Hour of Code for the 6th year in a row. The purpose of the Hour of Code is to broaden participation in the field of computer science. Computer Science Education week is being held from December 7th – 11th. KTEC will be joining the MKE Tech Hub Coalition’s regional MKE Hour of Code initiative, to help spread the message to students that our community is invested in their development, that there is a need for a technology work force in our region. MKE Tech Hub is providing professionals in the Information Technology (IT) field to volunteer their time and provide KTEC students with professional knowledge about their career and support to complete the Hour of Code challenge.
“It has been thoroughly enjoyable planning this year’s HOC with Kellee from Macgregor partners. I am confident that this year’s planned HOC activity will be full of dance moves, and have the students talking about it days after the activity! It is also exciting to know that we will be having diverse volunteers (three females and one with no college degree) encouraging our students to enter the field of information technology for a potential future career.”

Typically, in years past there was a kickoff assembly to encourage students and get pumped up for Hour of Code challenges. With the changes due to COVID-19 this year will look different, we will be encouraging students and parents to visit the KTEC, MKE Tech Hub and Hour of Code websites and give the opportunities of various to activities for students to try at home. This will allow everyone to participate in the Hour of Code and it might even become a family learning experience.
