As educators, we see the negative impact of cell phones (social media bullying, inappropriate content looked at and\/or shared, videotaping, wasted class time) on a daily basis, and our attempt is purely an effort to create a safe and productive environment for all students.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page-body\">\n<p>We have seen too many students (some with zero discipline referrals their entire school career) fall victim to the pitfalls of cell phone misuse. We understand the importance that cell phones play in the daily activities of many of our families, and in society, therefore, we feel a broad, \u201cno cell phones brought to school\u201d policy is not a feasible option. Our cell phone policy is:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Cell phones will need to be placed in the student\u2019s backpack at the start of the day and remain there until dismissal. If there is an extenuating circumstance, a parent\/guardian may ask to discuss that circumstance with an administrator.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Consequences for violating Lance&#8217;s cell phone policy<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>First offense &#8211; the student will be asked to put the phone in backpack<\/li>\n<li>Second offense &#8211; adult holds phone until dismissal time<\/li>\n<li>Third offense &#8211; parent required to pick-up phone<\/li>\n<li>Fourth offense &#8211; Out of School Suspension (OSS)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>If a student refuses to follow the steps detailed in 1-3 (not putting the phone away when asked by staff, not handing the phone over to staff when asked) it may result in an OSS.<\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<table style=\"width: 90.2844%\" border=\"1\" width=\"643\">\n<tbody>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td style=\"width: 79.4753%\" width=\"507\">\n<h2 class=\"style97\">No Earbuds\/ Headphones In School<\/h2>\n<p>Due to increased safety issues and repeatedly asking students to remove headphones\/ earbuds, over-the-ear headphones or AirPods are <strong>not<\/strong> allowed anywhere in the building (during the school day).\u00a0 The only exception to this is if they are <u>school-issued<\/u> headphones for state testing or Spanish class.\u00a0 If a student needs headphones for a class per the directions of a teacher they must be the wired earbud style.<\/p>\n<h3>Consequences for violating Lance&#8217;s earbud policy<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>First offense &#8211; the student will be asked to put the earbuds in backpack<\/li>\n<li>Second offense &#8211; adult holds the earbuds until dismissal time<\/li>\n<li>Third offense &#8211; parent required to pick up earbuds<\/li>\n<li>Fourth offense &#8211; Out of School Suspension (OSS)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>If a student refuses to follow the steps detailed in 1-3 (not putting the earbuds away when asked by staff, not handing the earbuds over to staff when asked), it may result in an OSS.<\/em><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 90.9573%\" width=\"120\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13296\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/lance\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/09\/noheadphones.jpg\" alt=\"noheadphones\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 class=\"style4\">Parent-initiated Transfer Requests<\/h2>\n<p>Parent-initiated transfer requests for the 2026-27 school year are due no later than March 21st, 2026.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/registration\/parent-initiated-school-transfer-request\/\">Click here for more information<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Electronic request forms will open on March 1 and will close on March 21. Families will be notified of decisions no later than mid-April. If preferred, paper copies are available via your child\u2019s current school office.\u00a0 Thank you.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Student User Accounts at School<\/h2>\n<p>Your student under the age of 13 may be asked to create user accounts on digital applications for educational purposes as they relate to classroom instruction. The account creation will be under the direction or supervision of the classroom teacher. Student information required to create such an account is typically limited to school email address, user name, or birthdate for age verification. No other personal information will be shared with these digital applications. Use of these educational accounts is in accordance with the Kenosha Unified School District Acceptable Use Policy, School Board Policy 6633, the federal Children\u2019s Internet Protection Act, and applicable state and local privacy laws.<\/p>\n<p>If you do not want your child to create user accounts for digital applications, you should opt-out by notifying your child\u2019s teacher in writing.
