New fall content floods streaming services, giving viewers ample entertainment options:

In 2020, many production companies halted creation of films and TV shows due to the pandemic. Whether it was because they couldn’t finish production or they didn’t know whether to release it theatrically or to streaming platforms, a lot of project release dates were pushed back.

Now that it is 2021 and employers have developed a way for workers to safely return to the set, companies have released lots of new content. Here are some projects you can look forward to in the Fall of 2021.

Diana: A True Musical Story

On Oct.1, a filmed musical adaptation of the life of the late Princess Diana was released on Netflix. About a month later, the musical will premiere on Broadway. Diana taps into the personal life of Diana Spencer from her sudden thrust into the spotlight to the love triangle between her, Prince Charles of Wales, and Camilla Parker Bowles, the prince’s mistress. The musical runs two hours and 15 minutes, including one intermission.

Venom: Let There be Carnage

Released on Oct.1, Marvel Entertainment and Sony’s Venom: Let There be Carnage. The movie continues the story of the odd duo between the alien, Venom, and investigative journalist, Eddie Brock. It introduces Woody Harrelson’s serial killer character, Cletus Kasady, who is given an alter-ego similar to Venom, named Carnage. The film follows Eddie and Venom as they battle with their newfound enemy.

On My Block: Season Four

The beloved Netflix Original returned for its fourth and final season on Oct.5. On My Block is a story that follows the lives of four bright teenagers who are caught up in the crossfire of their hood. This season will have the group, who split at the end of Season Three, come back together after two years, when they realize they can’t run from their past.

Muppets Haunted Mansion

On Oct.8, the Muppets return with the Disney+ exclusive, Muppets Haunted Mansion. Based on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland, the film will follow Grover, the famous dare-devil, as he is dared to survive the night at the Haunted Mansion. We will see plenty of the original Muppets return, but we will also see some familiar actors like John Stamos, Darren Criss, Taraji P. Henson, Will Arnet, and many more.

CHUCKY

Most know the killer doll, Chucky, from his eight-movie franchise. On Oct.12, the toy got its own show on Syfy and The USA Network. After a vintage Chucky doll shows up at a yard sale in an American suburb, the town is thrown into a frenzy when multiple horrifying murders begin to reveal its secrets. Characters from the previous Chucky movies will return, threatening to reveal some secrets themselves. The show will also dip into the untold origins of the doll.

You: Season Three

You is a Netflix Original that follows an intelligent bookstore manager, Joe Goldberg, who will do anything for love. The third season of the show became available for streaming on Oct.15. The season continues with the relationship between him and his pregnant wife, Love, and their new life in a suburban city. Although his life might seem to be perfect, a new home with a wife and child, Joe is still caught up in his old ways.

Halloween Kills

Following the events of Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills was released on Oct.15 to theaters and Peacock T.V. Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role as Laurie Strode, and James Jude Courtney will also be back as the infamous Michael Myers. Curtis’ character attempts to lead a mob to put an end to Michael Myers. Although it might seem like the end, like the 11 movies before, don’t count on it. In 2022, filmmakers hint at the release of the last movie of the film franchise, Halloween Ends..

I Know What You Did Last Summer Premiere

Adding to the other projects released on Oct.15, I Know What You Did Last Summer is a thriller drama streaming exclusively to Amazon Prime Video. Based on the ‘90s teen horror franchise, a mysterious killer stalks a group of teens a year after a fatal car accident on the night of their graduation. The series has a total of eight episodes, with the first four released on the premiere day. The remaining four episodes will stream every Friday, with the season finale being on Nov.12.

Dune

The highly anticipated Dune is set to release in theaters and HBO Max on Oct.22. Two of the biggest actors of this generation, Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, star in the movie as Paul Atreides and Chani. Based on a novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, Dune will follow the Atreides family and their journey on a new, hostile planet.

Ron’s Gone Wrong

Also being released to theaters on Oct.22, Ron’s Gone Wrong is a story between an awkward middle school boy, Barney, and his cute A.I, Ron. In a new age where kids’ best friends are B-Bots, Barney finds out that he is not quite the same as everyone else’s B-Bot. Both Barney and Ron will have to go on an adventure to come to terms with the messiness of their friendship.

Last Night in Soho

Releasing to theaters on Oct.29, Last Night in Soho is a horror drama taking place in the 1960s. After an inspiring fashion designer is mysteriously taken back to the ‘60s, she meets a singer. At first glance, it all seems glamorous but deep down there is something dark and twisted in the past of the singer that begins to show.

Colin in Black and White

Netflix releases Colin in Black and White on Oct. 29. The six-episode series recounts the life of former NFL football player, Colin Kaepernick, in his teenage years. Set in Turlock, California, the series explores the racism Kaepernick faced as a black adopted son of white parents in a primarily white neighborhood. Jaden Michael stars as young Kaepernick, with the real Kaepernick making appearances for narration.

Spencer

Another film highlighting the life of the late Princess Diana, Spencer is set to come out on Nov. 5 to theaters. Unlike Diana: A True Musical Story, Spencer focuses on the moment the princess realized she wanted to leave Charles instead of on her full biography. The setting is at the Sandringham Estate around Christmas time. According to Kristen Stewart, the actress who plays Diana, the events of the movie span over three days.

Eternals

Also being theatrically released on Nov.5, is Marvel Studios’ seventh project of the year, Eternals. The story follows a group of Eternals, an immortal race of powerful beings that have been secretly living on Earth for thousands of years, who reunite to fight the evil Deviants. The movie has a lot of recognizable faces like Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and Salma Hayek.

The Flash: Season Eight

DC Comics releases its popular superhero show, The Flash, in its eighth season, on Nov. 16 on the CW Network. The season will premiere with a five-part special titled “Armageddon” with plenty of cameos of characters across the Arrowverse (the universe DC Comics media are centered around). In this season, Team Flash teams up with Barry’s (The Flash) Arrowverse allies when a powerful alien force threatens the fate of humanity. Characters from shows like Black Lightning, Supergirl, and Arrow will make appearances.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

A reboot of the action-horror film series, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is a film adaptation of the first two games of the CAPCOM Resident Evil series. Releasing to only theaters on Nov. 24, the film is highly anticipated due to the popularity of the games and original movie series. The film follows a group of survivors after a pharmaceutical giant, Umbrella Corporation, unleashes zombies that overrun a city. The group has to figure out the secrets of Umbrella while trying to survive the night.

Hawkeye Premiere

Premiering on Disney+ on Nov.24, Hawkeye follows the story of avenger Clint Barton and his newfound companion, Kate Bishop, as they work together to stop someone from Barton’s past. With the first episode streaming a day before Thanksgiving, the show arrives right on time with its holiday theme. There will be a lot of recognizable faces such as Hailee Steinfeld, Jeremy Renner, Florence Pugh, and Vera Farmiga. This will be the eighth title and the fifth show Marvel Studios has released this year.
