In honor of Hispanic Heritage month, The Pulse is recognizing a variety of individuals who have contributed to the culture and lives of others. Each day we will add an individual to this post to honor these contributions.

Carlos Santana, (born on July 20, 1947), is a Mexican-born American guitarist who is most known for playing rock, jazz, blues, and Latin fusion music. He picked up his passion for music from his father, who was a professional violinist. Santana’s life would take a complete turn when he moved to San Francisco with his family in the early 1960’s. He would soon gain a following not long after forming his band The Santana Blues Band, which would later become known simply as Santana. Their release of top hits such as “Smooth”, “Oye Como Va”, and “Soul Sacrifice” would earn them countless Grammy awards, nominations, and even a spot on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
