A random survey of students asking them to share the most popular video games they have been playing since the pandemic halted in-person socialization last March uncovered that Hawks are playing some classic games  while staying safe at home.

Minecraft came up as one of top go-to games for Indian Trail students. It is a sandbox video game that was created by Markus “Notch”Persson and released May 17, 2009. The purpose of the game is to explore, build, and survive. It can either be played online with others or by yourself.

A more recent favorite game gaining attention is Among Us. Among Us takes place in a space setting. The game was released on June 15, 2018, and wasn’t a hit game until a few months ago, when it blew up. Among Us is an online multiplayer game. In space, you are dropped into an alien spaceship. Once you are on the spaceship, everyone gets placed in a role of either a crewmate, which is the majority of the players, or an imposter. The task of the game is to figure out who the imposters are and vote them off of the ship.

Other games mentioned by students included Call Of Duty and Call Of Duty Modern Warfare. The Call Of Duty games are a first-setting shooter video game. The game first came out with the setting taking place in World War ll, but now other settings include, the Cold War, futuristic worlds, and outer space.

Other favorites mentioned were Sims and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.  Sims is a life simulation game and is one of the best-selling video game series of all time. In the game, you can either play in hands-off mode and let the “Sims” make their own life decisions or you can manage their lives and make all of their decisions for them. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is also a life simulation game. It is made for Nintendo Switches and was released on March 20, 2020. It is the fifth main entry of the Animal Crossing series. In the game, you take on the role of a character who moves to a deserted island.

Other video games that students noted were Super Smash Bros, Genshin Impact, Fortnite, Valorant, Overwatch, and the Dark Soul series.
