2020 Black Friday draws fewer in-person shoppers

Shoppers spent about $9 billion on the Internet the day after Thanksgiving Day, also known as Black Friday. It was the second largest online spending day in U.S. history, and up almost 22% from last year’s online spending on that same day, according to Adobe Analytics.

But brick-and-mortar retailers saw a major drop in foot traffic, as many customers heeded warnings to stay safe and shop from home. Initial findings by Sensormatic Solutions, a leading global retail solutions firm, indicated a 52% decline in in-person shopping on Black Friday, compared to 2019.
