The Warriors dominate dodgeball, again

Balls were flying and students were dodging to keep their teams alive at the Indian Trail High School and Academy Dodge Ball Classic on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Mahone Middle School. The gym was somewhat packed with curious onlookers, excited to see who would become the new dodge ball champion.

But, this year, the champs were anything but new. The Warriors reclaimed their title as they won the tournament for the second year in a row.

The tournament, usually held by Business Academy teacher Bruce Bloedorn, was instead carried out by Student Engagement Dean, Adam King, and began at 4 p.m. There were 15 teams total, ranging from freshmen to staff members, who competed for the coveted championship t-shirts and gift cards to Buffalo Wild Wings.

“I am proud to say that I am the captain of The Warriors, two time ITHS&A Dodge ball Classic champions,” said Communication Academy Junior CJ Paronne. “It was a tough bracket, but we pulled it off.”

“It felt good to win,” said Latreal Teeter, Business Academy Senior and Warrior Team member.

“It was my first year on the team, I was honored to help them win the championship.”

“[The tournament] went really well,” said Adam King, dean in charge of this year’s tournament. “We moved it over to Mahone, spread it out a little bit. The crowd was really great and every single team was great. It was a very positive experience.”

The profits from the competition ended up being around $100 due to the expenses of security and other costs. All money raised will go right back to the students.

“My personal policy as an activities director is anything that I make will go directly to the kids,” said King.

Next year’s event may just top this one due to the fact it will be held at Indian Trail’s own facility. Will the Warriors be able to keep their title for the third year in a row? Only time will tell.
