93.4%.

That’s the percentage of passing grades handed out to Indian Trail’s freshmen this last progress report. Statistics that high secure Indian Trail’s freshmen the top spot when compared to all other public high schools across Kenosha Unified School District.

“I think this year’s [freshmen] came in with a little more drive than we’ve seen in the past,” said Julie Kerkman, English teacher for both Communications Academy freshmen and seniors.

Kerkman cites the comprehensive students for providing a benchmark for the academy students to compare themselves to.

“You find them comparing themselves and trying to be as good or better than the comprehensive kids,” said Kerkman.

Principal Beth Ormseth gives credit to Indian Trail’s staff and administration for working together to help students succeed.

“[Teachers] understand that if kids [are] struggling in one class, they might be struggling in another class,” Ormseth said.

The next best batch of high school freshmen in the district had a passing rate nine percentage points behind that of Indian Trail’s rate.
