With the arrival of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 in 2023, we can expect the return of familiar characters, including the return of Gamora. We’ll also see new faces, like Will Poulter as Adam Warlock and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog. However, the upcoming sequel is said to be the last film with the original cast, according to James Gunn. Zoe Saldana was the one to explain her feelings toward the trilogy’s ending.

“[Filming] started bitter in the beginning ’cause obviously you’re anticipating the end, But I’m just so happy that once again I got to work with great people. I had an evolution that I witnessed of myself, but also my director and my cast. I just felt very blessed and grateful,” said the actress during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Unlike other characters, Gamora has had a more intricate journey through the Marvel Comics Universe. Having appeared in many Marvel movies since her debut as Gamora, we saw a change of heart within her from a living weapon to a Guardian. Despite being sacrificed by Thanos for the Soul Stone, we expect to see her in the next film. However, she’s a different version.

Given the events that transpired throughout the Marvel movies Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 to Avengers: Endgame, Gamora will not have any memories of the Guardians. Not only does this mean she’ll return to being her old self, but it’s going to impact her team emotionally.

Aside from her comeback as Gamora, she also spoke on the iconic and memorable scene of the female Avengers coming together in Avengers: Endgame

Obviously we knew it was going to be special and we were feeling ourselves every time the Russos would say ‘action’, ” she continued. “But what I can remember—and there are these nuggets of life that make me feel so human and keep me grounded—is that we were just complaining about how uncomfortable our costumes were, our makeup, our wigs, how cold the set was.”

“But we were just being girls, going together, acting tough, and that to me was also very special,” Saldana said.

While this is the last time we’ll see this team as Guardians, a holiday special is said to release soon. Marvel has announced The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, where the Guardians are on a mission to visit Earth and give Peter an unforgettable Christmas. This special will premiere on November 25th exclusively on Disney+ with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 set to premiere on May 5th, 2023.
