Every Friday, singers and rappers always drop some new single or album that fans of that artist get excited about–that is what’s special about music, there is always something for everyone to listen to.

But one of those albums that was released late August by the Atlanta rapper, JID, The Forever Story, really shows how diverse he can really be by pure rapping to superlative vocals. What’s crazy about the album is the background of it: it’s an actual story, a story that started all the way back to 2017, his first album in his discography, The Never Story: both albums intertwined with each other in a special way.

An intriguing interview from Apple music in which the video is called Behind JID’s ‘The Forever Story’ and Building His Family Legacy shows both the rapper himself, and how both albums connected. I highly recommend giving it a watch. JID explains how The Never Story brought him up into making The Forever Story five years later.

Never came from like a very humble mindset, coming from never having anything but Forever Story is just like the evolved origin story, really giving me a more tap-in like to who I am telling more family stories, where I’m from, and how I am.”

JID would explain in more detail how the The Never Story slowly gravitated towards the making of The Forever Story.

“Now I am thinking about the future. Never was like, dang, this might not even be a real thing; it’s just a dream, but of course like with all the hard work and stuff I put in like it’s a blessing to still be able to do this”.

Now with the album itself, after listening to it for the first time, I think that not only does The Forever Story talk about him now and where he is at, it gives out stories with his own family more, and it can be heard by the lyrics, the production, and the samples itself on most songs.

I feel like the first half of the album is an equal amount of JID and his family, with songs like Crack Sandwitch telling a fight story with him and his whole family fighting against someone in New Orleans.

But the other half of the album? The best word to explain it is “angelic”: it is beautifully made. This is where the vocals and singing come into play starting with Kody Blu 31, a song with the sample of JID whole family singing the words “Swang on” over and over; it really keeps pushing through the theme of the song without even saying it; that is powerful with the help of the sample.

Overall I would like to say that this album is a must listen; it has great storytelling, great production, great diversity of rap and singing, and I can’t wait to see what JID has for us in the near future.
