Indian Trail’s players describe this year’s boys basketball season as one of the most intense to say the least, from physical altercations, feuding student sections, and heated losses as well as wins.

Teammate Jonathan Murray, a senior, recently reflected on his last season of high school basketball.

“Some things that challenged us were our week where we played Tremper, Oak Creek, and Bradford. We lost all three by six points or less,” Murray said. “These were all such tough losses because they were games we could’ve and should’ve won, but they made us stronger because instead of getting down and discouraged we’ve stuck together as a team and have started to just work even harder.”

Numerous other teammates have been heard echoing this statement, but have determinedly kept a positive attitude and worked even harder to overcome the losses.

“One thing I find special about our team is that we haven’t fallen apart even though this season has been really rough we’ve stuck together and kept fighting,” Teammate Norvins Monestime, a senior as well, said.

He goes even further to convey how important it is to form connections with teammates, and how they have achieved this.

“Everybody from our coach and starters to our bench just hold each other accountable and have real relationships, so we really are like a family. Everybody on this team trusts each other and we all have the same goals trusting each other just came along naturally,” Murray said.

Through these connections off the court, the basketball team has made some amazing memories with successful games and a great atmosphere for the players as well as the student section.

“My favorite memory from this season was beating Tremper. The energy in the building was just crazy that game, especially when all the fans came running on the court to celebrate with us.” Monestime said.

Although this season is very important to all the players, many have decided to continue playing basketball even after high school, and hope to venture their abilities even further to a college sports level.

“I don’t plan to play basketball in college because of track, but I know a lot of my teammates do, so hopefully we can end the season strong to get them as much college coach exposure as possible,” Murray said.
