The Pulse kicks off Black History Month with celebration of key contributors

During the month of February, The Pulse staff will feature short stories showcasing African Americans who contributed to American society through their achievements. From artists and writers to athletes and philosophers, those featured in the coming days have influenced many and served as role models. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. The month has inspired schools and communities across the nation to organize local celebrations.
