Standing Bear fought for Lakota people

Luther Standing Bear, (also known as Luther Plenty Kill), was a Sicangu and Oglala Lakota chief notable in American history.  Standing Bear was known as a Native American educator, philosopher, actor, author during the 20th century.  He fought to maintain Lakota sovereignty and heritage.  Standing Bear’s commentaries on Native American culture and wisdom deepened public awareness.  He stood at the foreground of the continuing movement while creating popular support to change government policies toward Native American peoples.
