{"id":15700,"date":"2026-01-28T08:33:45","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T14:33:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/frank\/blog\/news\/black-history-month-2026\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T10:02:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T16:02:34","slug":"black-history-month-2026","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/frank\/news\/black-history-month-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Black History Month 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WHEREAS,<\/strong> Black History Month originated in 1915 with a national celebration of the 50th anniversary of emancipation, sponsored by the state of Illinois, to highlight progress since the end of slavery; and<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHEREAS,<\/strong> every U.S. president since 1976 has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month as a means to celebrate the achievements of black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history; and<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHEREAS,<\/strong> it is essential to recognize and celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of Black Americans throughout history, not only in February, but throughout the year; and<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHEREAS,<\/strong> we recognize and honor the contributions of Black leaders, educators and community members in Kenosha and Wisconsin, whose impact continues to shape our schools and communities; and<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHEREAS,<\/strong> Kenosha Unified is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and respectful learning environment for all students; and<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHEREAS,<\/strong> observing Black History Month raises awareness of the ongoing struggle for freedom and equal opportunity, highlights racial barriers to educational equity, and supports efforts to close achievement gaps; and<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHEREAS,<\/strong> integrating Black history throughout the school year and across all subject areas enriches students\u2019 understanding of U.S. history and contributes to a more accurate and inclusive education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED<\/strong> that Kenosha Unified School District\u2019s Board of Education proclaims February as Black History Month, and encourages schools to engage in meaningful activities that reflect the spirit and purpose of this observance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":15702,"menu_order":0,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false},"categories":[7],"class_list":["post-15700","news","type-news","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-district"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/frank\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/15700","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/frank\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/frank\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/frank\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/15702"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/frank\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=15700"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/frank\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=15700"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
