{"id":13534,"date":"2023-03-17T15:49:27","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T15:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/forestpark\/?page_id=13534"},"modified":"2023-03-17T15:49:27","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T15:49:27","slug":"school-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/forestpark\/information\/school-history\/","title":{"rendered":"School History"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n\r\nForest Park Elementary School first opened its doors in September of 1956.\u00a0 The original building provided for sixteen, K-6 classrooms, three being kindergarten sections, with a capacity of 600 students.\u00a0 This was an average class size of 32 students.\u00a0 The cost of the new school was $794,500.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nIn March of 1957, Forest Park Elementary School was the subject of an article in\u00a0<strong><em>The Nation\u2019s Schools<\/em><\/strong>, a magazine for educators.\u00a0 The article was titled, \u201cSchool Born of Experience\u201d and discussed the unique design of the school.\u00a0 Since that time Forest Park School has had two additions to the building.\u00a0 Four rooms were added to the south end.\u00a0 You can still see the outside red brick wall in rooms 107 and 104.\u00a0 There was a second addition to the building on the north end.\u00a0 Four rooms were added to form a T-shape.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMr. Taylor Schmit is the current principal at Forest Park Elementary School. Ronald C. Jensen was appointed the school\u2019s first principal and served until his retirement in July of 1979.\u00a0 At that time, Stephen Relich was named the school\u2019s second principal and served until August of 1987.\u00a0 Mr. Relich transferred to Harvey School.\u00a0 Richard B. Guttormsen was the next principal and served until his retirement in\u00a0 July of 1996.\u00a0 He was followed by Ronald Soulek.\u00a0 Mr. Soulek transferred to the Kenosha School of Languages in July of 1999.\u00a0 Mr. Gary Gayan retired in June of 2011.
