Inquiry Based Learning

A shovel digging into some dirt.

  • Buck Institute for Education is a leading source for information and resources on project-based learning. Check out their site for a free on-line PBL Toolkit, links to research studies on PBL, and videos of PBL in action.  There is also a discussion board where you can pose questions and get ideas and support from others. BIE's YouTube page hosts archived sessions of free BIE webinars.

  • TEACH 21 is a site of the West Virginia Department of Education that highlights project-based learning. You can search for sample projects by grade and/or subject. These standards-based projects include sample assessment rubrics, project timelines, suggested resources and other useful info for a teacher wishing to replicate the project in their classroom.  The site also contains sample PBL tools, such as sample rubrics and student learning contracts.

  • Edutopia offers videos and examples of PBL instruction.  It also has an on-line PBL support group where you can post questions and get ideas from teachers across the country that are currently using PBL.

  • Illinois Projects in Practice offers project planning resources and sample project ideas for Early Childhood educators. The site also links to research that supports the use of the project approach with our young learners.
