(Thursday, May 7, 2026) \u2013 The Kenosha Unified School District invites community members to serve on a committee to review recommendations to rename the Chavez Learning Station, 6300 27th Ave. The review is in response to community requests regarding the facility&#8217;s current name.<\/p>\n<p>The committee&#8217;s recommendation will be presented to the Board of Education for discussion and possible action on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is scheduled to meet from 5-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, and Thursday, June 4, at the Educational Support Center (ESC), 3600 52nd St. Additional meetings may be held on Tuesday, June 9, and Tuesday, June 16, if needed.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals interested in serving on the committee or submitting a name for consideration must submit a letter of interest by Wednesday, May 20. Letters must include the individual\u2019s name, email address and phone number. Selected participants will be notified by May 29.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions may be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mailed to the Educational Support Center, ATTN: Tanya Ruder, 3600 52nd, Kenosha, WI 53144<\/li>\n<li>Emailed to <a href=\"mailto:truder@kusd.edu\">truder@kusd.edu<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Dropped off at the ESC between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When submitting a name for consideration, the following guidelines apply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Buildings must be named after a person or place.<\/li>\n<li>Individuals must have been deceased for at least two years before they may be nominated.<\/li>\n<li>Individuals who are nominated must be limited to those who have historical significance, have performed exemplary service in the community or for humanity, have displayed outstanding leadership and\/or are of exemplary moral character.<\/li>\n<li>Places that are nominated must be very well known and have a great deal of significance to the district and\/or community.<\/li>\n<li>First consideration shall be given to local persons or places, but consideration may also be given to state, national and international persons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":16286,"menu_order":0,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false},"categories":[12],"class_list":["post-16285","news","type-news","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-district"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/chavez\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news\/16285","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/chavez\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/news"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/chavez\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/chavez\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/16286"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/chavez\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=16285"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/chavez\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=16285"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
