(Tuesday, April 18. 2023) – Bose Elementary students in grades K-2 will visit UW-Parkside on Friday, April 28, 2023, to see their pollinator patch and learn about local environmental topics from university students and staff.

This opportunity will allow students to see a pollinator patch in another area beyond their school grounds, and to hear from others about how to care for and learn about healthy and resilient habitats. In 2021, the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network (RPWIN) received a grant from SC Johnson that supported the installation and implementation of a Pollinator Patch Program at Bose Elementary School. This living outdoor classroom has been offering students educational opportunities since early 2022.

During their trip to UW-Parkside, Bose students will learn more about local pollinators, native plants and trees, and seasonal changes in the environment. Students will work with experts from RPWIN and UW-Parkside to test out a watershed model, complete soil analysis, learn how composting works, and build their own ecosystem models. These hands-on activities will further advance the students’ knowledge of and appreciation for these important habitats.

[7
post-13502","news","type-news","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-district
["GET
