March 12 special board meeting recap – insurance update

Plan design

As previously shared, the district is currently undergoing a request for proposal (RFP) for a health care vendor and plan. The RFP process is something the district undergoes every three years when our health care carrier contract is set to expire. It includes sending out an invitation for carriers to vie for our business. The proposals submitted by the carriers are reviewed by the Board and include vendor presentations, which cover the cost of plans, plan options, customer service offerings and more.

Tonight, the Board voted to select UnitedHealthcare as the district’s new vendor with a high deductible health care plan as outlined below. In addition, the Board voted to provide benefit-eligible, active employees with health savings account (HAS) contributions of $750 single/$1,500 family. While much of this is new, please know that there will be a great deal of information shared in the coming weeks as to what the new plan entails and costs associated with it for our employees. In addition, we will share information about high deductible health care plans and information about what an HSA is and how it can benefit employees.

Employee health care sessions will be held between April 29 and May 17, with open enrollment being held between May 6 and June 7.
