KUSD has had four weather-related closures this year. The district builds two days into the calendar each year for inclement weather and/or emergencies. Beyond that, the district must make up the required instructional minutes as outlined by the Department of Public Instruction. To make up the two additional days needed, the changes below will be made. The goal is to have the least negative impact possible on our students, staff and families while restoring this valuable instructional time. 

  • Morning 4K and morning Head Start will not have any changes to their calendar at this time
  • Beginning Monday, March 20, the following extended day schedules will be implemented through the end of the school year and bus schedules also will be adjusted to align:
    • Afternoon 4K, afternoon Head Start, full day Head Start, elementary schools, middle schools, Harborside and LakeView (this does not include morning 4K, morning Head Start, Brompton, KTEC, or Dimensions of Learning) 
      • School day will end 8 minutes later
    • Dimensions of Learning
      • School day will end 2 minutes later
    • Bradford, ITHSA, Tremper high schools
      • School day will start 5 minutes early and end 3 minutes later
    • Hillcrest and Reuther do not need to make up additional minutes due to their alternative school status
  • The Friday, March 24, staff workday will be converted to an early release Friday along with the extra 8 minutes as noted above for all KUSD students except those in 4K and Head Start who do not have school on Fridays (includes all charter schools, Hillcrest and Reuther)
    • All students to report except those in 4K and Head Start who do not have school on Fridays
    • This will be the usual early release Friday schedule as outlined on our Hours of the School Day webpage
    • Lunch will be served as it is on our usual early release Fridays
  • Dimensions of Learning also will convert their Friday, May 5, professional learning day to an early release Friday schedule
