KUSD presents 55th annual Orchestra Festival

Kenosha Unified School District’s 55th Annual Orchestra Festival will be presented on Saturday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 5, at 1:30 p.m. in the Indian Trail High School and Academy field house. The event will feature performances by more than 1,300 elementary, middle, high and charter school students.

Tickets are available at www.kusd.edu/finearts. All seats are reserved, and patrons can choose between field house seating ($8) or auditorium live-feed video seating ($3). Both performances will be streamed live on Channel 20 and www.youtube.com/kenoshaschools. These events traditionally sell out and tickets cannot be guaranteed at the door.

This year's guest conductor is Dr. E. Edward Kawakami, assistant professor of music and director of orchestral activities at Carthage College. Dr. Kawakami has held a range of musical roles throughout his career, including collaborations with Pulizter Prize winning composer Ellen Taaffe Zwillich and multi-Grammy award winning violinist Mark O’Connor. His credits also include associate music director and conductor of the Tallahassee Youth Orchestras, music director of the Florida State University Campus Orchestra, associate conductor of the Big Bend Community Orchestra, music director of the Tallahassee Virtuosi and the affiliated Music Rebuilds philanthropic organization.

Participating schools and their directors are Heather Kamikawa, Bradford High School; Angela Barone, Brompton School; Serena Terra, Bullen Middle School; Marra Scheil, Dimensions of Learning Academy; Robert Wells, Harborside Academy/Lakeview Academy; Kevin Stewart, Indian Trail High School and Academy; Keith Robinson, Kenosha School of Technology Enhanced Curriculum; Lindsay Pytel, Lance Middle School; Jennifer Marvin, Lincoln Middle School; Allison Millsaps, Mahone Middle School; Helen Breitenbach, Tremper High School; Todd DeBoer, Washington Middle School; Lorikaye Kristiansen and Elizabeth Tercek, elementary orchestra.
