Emergency/Weather Status/School Closing Information


Inclement Weather Procedures

Unless notified otherwise, Procedure 1 is in effect.

PROCEDURE 1: "All schools in the Kenosha Unified School District No. 1 will be open today. Students and personnel will be expected to attend as normally scheduled."

PROCEDURE 2: "All schools in the Kenosha Unified School District No. 1 will open two hours later this morning, and buses that transport students will be running approximately two hours later. There will be no AM or PM Early Childhood, Speech Impact or Four-Year-Old Kindergarten classes. Personnel are expected to report as normally scheduled. Dismissal will be at the regular time."

PROCEDURE 3: "All schools in the Kenosha Unified School District No. 1 will be closed, and no students are expected to report.  The Senior Citizens Center will be closed.  Secretaries should not report to work, with the exception of secretaries assigned to the Educational Support Center, Department of Recreation, and 12-month school secretaries who MAY report to work.  The only persons required to report to work today are:
Full-Time Custodial Employees;
Full-Time Food Service Workers;
Maintenance Personnel;
Carpenters and Painters;
Warehouse Personnel;
Administrative, Supervisory, and Technical Personnel."


General Guidelines Regarding Closing of Schools Due to Extremely Cold Weather Conditions:

Either -20 degrees Fahrenheit sustained temperature or -34 degrees below zero or lower Fahrenheit sustained windchill.

Inclement Weather Developing During the School Day:

The Superintendent or his designee will call a meeting of all appropriate staff involved to decide on the status of school for the remainder of the day, for evening activities, and for the following day.

Inclement Weather Continuing Through the End of the School Day:

Community Learning Centers (CLCs) will stay open after school until parents retrieve their children.

Inclement Weather Developing On the Weekends Impacting School-Sponsored Events:

The Department of Fine Arts has developed and distributed contingency plans for high attendance activities such as Band-O-Rama, Choral Festival, and Orchestra Festival.  The Department of Athletics, Activities, Health, Physical Education, and Recreation has contingency plans for athletic events and organized adult recreation/senior citizens events.

  • view the web site www.kusd.edu
  • listen to local radio stations WGTD (91.1FM), WRJN (1400 AM), WLIP (1050 AM), or WIIL (95.1 FM)
  • watch Cable Channel 20, available to Kenosha area Time Warner Cable television subscribers
  • Milwaukee and Chicago radio and television stations are notified only if schools are to be closed.
