Summer Music Opportunities 2018

Band of the Black Watch (Completed Grades 9-11)

Membership in Blackwatch includes participation in a mandatory band camp June 13-16 at Carroll University in Waukesha. In July, the band will be traveling to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Rambler Band (Completed Grade 7-8)

Classes will meet Tuesdays in late May and early June from 6-8 pm, and Tuesdays through Thursdays from 1-4 pm from June 19 through July 17 and includes participation in a mandatory band camp June 14-16 at St. John’s Military Academy. A complete schedule of rehearsals and performances will be distributed to the students before the end of the school year. Rambler Band online registration

Beginning Strings (Completed Grades 3, 4 & 5)

This course is for students who have never played an instrument before. It will run from June 20 through July 27, with a final concert to be held on July 25 at Indian Trail High School. Classes are one (1) hour in length and are scheduled either in the morning or afternoon on Tuesday through Thursday. We will also have limited enrollment for evening classes (at Bradford and Tremper). Registration will be conducted through the district’s instrumental music instructors. The music teachers will provide registration information to the students in May. Parent meetings for registration will be held on May 22 at Washington Middle School at 7:00 p.m. OR May 24 at Lance Middle School at 7:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend one of the meetings, phone registration will begin May 25 (through your elementary string specialist). Classes will be offered at Lincoln Middle School, Tremper High School and Bradford High School. Cost is $15.  Questions: Jennifer Marvin (359-2745 or jmarvin@kusd.edu).

Cadet Strings (Completed Grades 4 or 5 - 1st year players)

This course is for students who have completed 1 year of musical instruction. It will run from June 20 through July 26, with a final concert to be held on July 25 at Indian Trail High School. Classes are one (1) hour in length and will be offered at Lincoln Middle School (12:30 p.m.) and at Bradford High School (5:00p.m.) on Tuesday through Thursday. Intermediate Strings (Completed Grades 5-6, 2nd & 3rd year players)

This course is for students who have completed 2-3 years of musical instruction. It will run from June 20 through July 26, with a final concert to be held on July 25 at Indian Trail High School.  Classes are one (1) hour in length and will be offered at Lincoln Middle School (1:30 p.m.) and at Bradford High School (6:00 p.m.) on Tuesday through Thursday. Middle School Strings (Completed Grades 7-8)

This course will run from June 20 through July 27 with a final concert to be held on July 25 at Indian Trail High School. Classes are one (1) hour in length and will be offered at Lincoln Middle School (2:30 p.m.) and Bradford High School (7:00 p.m.) on Tuesday through Thursday. High School Strings (Completed Grades 9-11)

This course will run from June 20 through July 26. The group will be performing out in the community (dates and locations will be set by the beginning of the summer program. Class is (1) hour in length and will be offered from 4-5 p.m. at Bradford High School, Tuesday through Thursday. Students will have sectionals 1 day per week from 3:30-4 p.m. prior to the full group rehearsal, (Violin-Tuesday, Viola-Wednesday, Cello/Bass-Thursday). Registration will be conducted through the district’s instrumental music instructors. K-L Band (Completed Grade 5)

Class will meet Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. from June 18 through July 18 in the auditorium at Reuther Central High School. Performances will be July 17th (Band Booster Ice Cream Social) and July 18th (Kenosha Pops). A complete schedule of rehearsals and performances will be distributed to the students during the first week of rehearsals. K-L Band online registration

Continental Band (Completed Grade 6)

Class will meet Monday through Thursday from 9:00-11:00 a.m. from June 18 through July 17 in the auditorium at Reuther Central High School. Performances will be July 4 (Kenosha Pops) and July 17 (Band Booster Ice Cream Social). A complete schedule of rehearsals and performances will be distributed to the students during the first week of rehearsals. Registration will be conducted through the district’s instrumental music instructors June 14 from 9:00 a.m. to noon (Reuther Gymnasium) and also before the first rehearsal. Summer Jazz (HS and MS)

This course will run from June through July and is offered for middle and high school band and orchestra members that play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drum set/percussion, piano bass or guitar. Students are selected based on an audition which will take place in the spring.. A complete schedule of rehearsals and performances as well as audition materials will be distributed to the students before the end of the school year.  More Information can be found at the KUSD Jazz All-Stars website.  Instruction will be offered at Indian Trail High School.
