Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) Programat Reuther Central High School and Indian Trail Academy The C.N.A. Program is no longer part of the Youth Options Program. It is comprised of “contracted services” and will be transcripted credited courses for Gateway Technical College; i.e. students who pass the course with a D or better will earn Gateway Technical College credits as well as high school credits. Because of a crisis and shortage of qualified workers in the health care field, because of specific requirements in the nursing program, and because KUSD promotes Career and Technical Education programs to help students earn a living wage, the Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) program is offered at Reuther Central High School and Indian Trail Academy. APPLICATION PROCEDURE:Forms to complete if taking C.N.A. and/or Medical Terminology:
Submit the first two items to your high school guidance counselor before the deadline if applying for Medical Terminology. Submit the first four items to your high school guidance counselor before the deadline if applying for C.N.A. Student will be sent a letter stating where to submit fees for C.N.A. course. All five items must be submitted before a student can be registered for C.N.A. at Reuther or Indian Trail. These courses have a maximum class size of 16 and are filled by the first 16 paid and completed applications. Late applications will be put on a waiting list or scheduled for another quarter. At Reuther, the C.N.A. course is scheduled in the morning (see schedule on link below). These are 3-credit college course (.75 high school credits). Student must allow for travel time to and from the C.N.A. site and the high school. The C.N.A. course requires that you have reliable transportation to and from Reuther, as well as to and from the clinical work sites. Accommodations are made at Reuther so that students are able to return to their high school on time for their next period class. Reuther clinicals will be in the morning during normal class times. At Indian Trail Academy, an afternoon C.N.A. class is offered quarter 1 and 3. Classes run from 1-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Clinicals will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. When students are in clinicals, the class does not meet in the afternoon. At the end of the course, students are required to take the C.N.A. exam, which the State of Wisconsin subcontracts from Promisser, www.pearsonvue.com. Click on State Regulatory Exams to find Nurse’s Aide Exam. Students are responsible for the $115.00 exam fee. Upon the successful completion of the exam, students receive C.N.A. certification from the State of Wisconsin. Students may also take a second course “Medical Terminology” at Reuther Quarter 4 from 7:45 – 9:30 a.m. (times pending), Monday through Thursday, or at Indian Trail Quarter 2 or Quarter 4, from 1-3 p.m., Monday through Wednesday.
