Population Served

Bridges is a regular educational option program for secondary students in the Kenosha Unified School District. Bridges schools include Bradford, Tremper, and Reuther High Schools and Bullen, Lincoln, McKinley, and Washington Middle Schools. The Bridge Center, a small off campus program, is located at Hillcrest School.

Who is eligible for the Bridges Program?

  1. Youth enrolled and living in the attendance boundaries of any Bridges school.
  2. Youth who consistently perform at an unsatisfactory academic level.
  3. Youth who are chronically truant or who exhibit other behaviors that place the youth at risk of school failure.
  4. Youth who have been expelled from Kenosha Unified School District may be enrolled at the Hillcrest Bridge Center with School Board approval.

How are referrals made to the Bridges Program?

  1. Parents, students, school personnel, Division of Children & Family Services case managers, or Juvenile Intake Services may contact the principal or Bridges teachers of the youth's school of residence to request placement in the Bridge Program. A review of the student's academic progress will occur with input from teachers and staff, parent or guardian, and the student in order to consider enrollment. This may be done with the school's staffing committee in order to rule out the need for special education services or to consider other appropriate programs. Most placements are voluntary.
  2. Youth who are expelled from KUSD by the School Board or have an expulsion held in abeyance may be offered enrollment in the Bridge Center under policy 5142.2.
  3. If the Bridges Sites or Bridge Center are operating at capacity, referred students will be placed on a waiting list.
